KMA AND PILOT THEATRE 5CIRCLES

ST SAMPSON'S SQ
23 - 25 OCTOBER
7pm - 10pm

Free event

KMA and Pilot Theatre present 5Circles; this is the beginning of a radical, imaginative and beautiful project, which will be rolled out across the globe. Rich patterns, colours and sounds create a playground of light in the heart of the City. KMA and Pilot Theatre will be using web technology to experiment with streaming, chat and feedback that can be watched wherever you are. 5circles will remove KMA and Pilot Theatre as authors of the work by allowing individuals from around the globe to compose works online. These works will then be able to be performed by citizens on the other side of the world.

This forms the research project for the 2012 Olympics, and here in York we can get a glimpse of the project as it develops. Visit www.5circles.net and become part of the buzz.

In Flock (Trafalgar Square 2005) KMA re-created Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, a pedestrian ballet where passers by uniquely formed both the performers and the audience. 5circles aims to push this exploration one simple, but very fundamental, step forward. 5circles will remove KMA and Pilot Theatre as authors of the work by allowing individuals from around the globe to compose works online. These works will then be able to be performed by citizens on the other side of the world.

KMA is collaboration between UK media artists Kit Monkman and Tom Wexler. Their work is primarily focussed on illuminating, encouraging, and developing, interactions between people in public spaces using projected light. KMA have produced work for Liverpool capital of culture, Phoenix Dance Theatre and the Indian International Film Academy Awards.

Pilot Theatre is the award winning National Touring Theatre Company currently in residence at York Theatre Royal. The Company has created Award winning Productions and performed at national and International festivals and conferences. They have reached over 250,000 audience members, including an estimated 70,000 young people over the last three years.

Lottery FundedThis project is funded and supported by, Pilot Theatre, City of York Council, Yorkshire Forward, Arts Council England and the Legacy Trust as part of the I Move programme.
